Abdul Wahid hopes to win gold for Ghana at All African Games

Ghana’s hope for the future in boxing, Abdul Wahid Omar has hinted his desire to become a world star in boxing and made a big name like Floyd Mayweather and other popular boxers.
The best amateur boxer of the year 2014 told yours truly in an exclusive interview that he wants to win gold for Ghana at the next All African Games in Congo and then target the world championships.
According to Omar, he knowAmateur Star Wahid hopes to shine for Ghanas that all the best professional boxers were once very god amateur boxers and they gain a lot of experience in the ring before turning pro so he wants to emulate them and become an established star like Professor Azumah Nelson who is his mentor.
He said boxing is not an easy game as one has to be tough and train very hard daily even when there is no fight one must go to the gym for some work outs.
He commended the handlers of the national team, the Black Bombers led by coach Ofosu Asare and hope that whatever they have leant will be implemented at the All African Games.
Wahid Omar who won bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland said boxing has made him a very popular person, but does not take his popularity for granted because he is just starting the journey to fame and when he becomes a professional champion, there will can tell whether the sport had been god to him.
He also praised the management of Bukon Boxing LLC for their support, advice and motivation.
He mentioned Mike Akoto as a great man who has encouraged him just like the manager of Wisdom Boxing Gym in Accra where he trains every day, if he is not at the Accra Sports Staduim.
Wahid Omar said the Black Bombers are a very disciplined group who can win many medals at the upcoming All African Games and want the government to support them like it is doing to the Black Stars.
Meanwhile, the Amateur boxing flyweight prospect, SWAG Amateur Boxer of the Year 2014 is yet to be paid a pledge bonus of 3000 dollars for bronze medalist at the month-long competition.
Wahid, who is bent on winning more laurels with the Black Bombers said he was elated by his nomination and feels motivated to train harder to win gold in future games before turning professional.
“I am very happy about this choice as best boxer. I think I deserve it because I worked hard to win gold but unfortunately I didn’t get to the finals but I know getting to the medal stage is an equally good achievement considering the strength and number of people that contested against me,” he said.
