Will Power Gym to organise championship fights

Accra, May 19, GNA - Will Power Boxing Gym si to hold an Open Individual Boxing Championship for gyms in the Greater Accra Region next month.

The championship which spans from June 1-3 will feature five professional boxing fights with three national titles at stake.

The event, which is scheduled for the City Engineers Yard, James Town in Accra, Accra is aimed at keeping boxers busy in the absence of the Mortein Boxing League and other promotions.

Napoleon Tagoe, a boxing trainer and organiser told the GNA Sports that the championship, which is in its third edition will parade crack boxers to give fans their money's worth.

He said the move is also an attempt to generate funds for boxers whose only source of income is the sport.

Tagoe, a former World Boxing Council (WBC) Cruiserweight Continental Champion called on the National Sports Council, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports and other corporate bodies to come to the aid of the project.

He said even though the project is a laudable one, it is regrettable that it has failed to attract the needed financial support to ensure its sustenance.
