Super Featherweight boxer secures managerial contract

Accrs, May 7, GNA - Samuel Amoako, one of the Nation's promising boxers in the Super Featherweight division has secured a three year renewable managerial contract with Mr David Azumah, an Accra based business man.

The boxer, according to the contract, will be entitled to weekly training allowances and monthly remittances and well-designed training programme aimed at making him a prominent boxer by the close of the three year deal.

Amoako, 22, is expected to pocket 60 percent of all purses from matches, with 30 percent going to his manager and 10 percent to his trainer.

At a brief signing-on ceremony, Mr Trully Ahene, spokesperson of Mr Azumah, said, all parties to the contract have agreed to the terms stated in the document and expressed the hope that it will not end like other contracts between some Ghanaian boxers and their managers.

He said, the contract is to provide the boxer the opportunity to be a world champion by the close of the three years, adding that every effort would be geared towards the realisation of the dream. Mr Ahene however, noted that the renewal of the contract after the three years will depend on the performance of the boxer. According to the spokesperson, they are expecting the boxer to rise from National champion to West Africa and Africa and Commonwealth level by the end of the three year term.

Amoako, however expressed delight at the contract and said it would afford him the opportunity to train adequately for his bouts. "It is not easy to come across managers these days and therefore, I have to work hard to justify the investments made in me". 07 May 06
