Sports Minister wishes Joseph Agbeko well

In his usual strong showing of support and solidarity for Ghanaian sportsmen and women, the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has sent a goodwill message to former bantamweight titleholder Joseph King Kong Agbeko.

Ghana's boxing 'king-kong' is billed to fight tough Cuban fighter Guillermo Rigondeaux in an HBO main event bout on Saturday December 7 in Atlantic City.

The much hyped Guillermo Rigondeaux versus Joseph Agbeko has generated media interest in the US and the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City will be buzzing when the Ghanaian steps up to his Cuban opponent for the WBA and WBO super bantamweight titles that have been put on the line.

Boxing analysts have called it a gamble by the Ghanaian since this bout represents only his second fight since 2011, his last being the win over Luis Melendez in Ghana in March this year;

Agbeko is a former two-time bantamweight champion, but he has only won one fight since 2010 and will be a massive underdog when he walks into the ring on Saturday. However, Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah in a special message to the Ghanaian pugilist from Salvador Brazil believes in the capabilities of the former world champion.

"The whole nation is solidly behind you as you fight to regain your title. We have absolute belief that you will make Ghana proud on Saturday because this is Ghana's golden dawn where we will reclaim our lost sporting glory step by step".

Meanwhile, Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President, Lawyer Peter Zwennes and Patrick Johnson (Secretary General) left the country yesterday to the United State of America to support Joseph ‘King kong’ Agbeko.

Agbeko's fight record currently stands at (29-4, 22 KO) with his opponent boasting of a 100% record with (12-0, 8 ).
