Seven ring officials win ABU badges

Accra, April 26, GNA - Six Ghanaian boxing ring officials and a supervisor will be decorated with the African Boxing Union (ABU) badges at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Education and Sports on Thursday, April 27 at 3: p.m. The ceremony will be performed by Mr O.B. Amoah, Deputy Minister of the sector.

Mr Moses Foh Amoaning, chairman of the Ghana Boxing Association (GBA) named the officials who will be bedecked as Ataa Eddie Pappoe, President of the ABU Ring Officials and a World Boxing Council (WBC) judge, Robert Sackey, Daniel Nunoo-Mensah, Emmanuel Brenya, Shadrach Acquaye and Fred Ghartey. J.A. Annan a veteran ring official will also be decorated with a supervisor's badge.

Two other officials, Jemima Otoo and Gideon Allotey who should have been part of the occasion are currently in the United States and will miss the show.

Also on Thursday at the same venue, the GBA will present 30 million cedis to the gyms which participated in the Mortein Boxing League as their final take of the sponsorship deal.

The GBA chairman said each of the 10 gyms would receive three million cedis to aid development to ensure that the next inter clubs competition would be of a better quality than the previous one was. In another development, the GBA will donate some money to the widow of the late Ben Neequaye, a boxer who died recently.

Mr Foh Amoaning said the GBA had also secured insurance policies for the children of the deceased boxer, while he had personally agreed to assume scholarship responsibility for the elder of the two boys. 27 April 06
