Richard Commey to face Robert Easter in a world title bout

Ghana’s Richard Commey (24-0, 22 KO’s) will meet American Robert Easter Jr. (17-0, 14 KO’s) on September 9th in Reading, Pennsylvania, for the vacant IBF World Lightweight title, according to bukomboxingnews.com.

The duo was mandated by the IBF to fight for the vacant title after Cuban superstar Rances Barthelemy vacated the belt last month.

“September 9 is the proposed date for now,” Commey’s trainer, Carl Lokko told Bukomboxingnews.com.

“Our team wanted to bring the fight to Ghana and Easter’s team are also trying to stage it in Pennsylvania.”

Commey was featured ringside during Barthelemy’s last month against Mickey Bey Jr., with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) announcers touting his skills and deadly fists. Commey vs. Barthelemy was an anticipated showdown, but instead, the hard-hitting Ghanaian will take on the undefeated Easter Jr., one of the most talented contenders in Al Haymon’s PBC stable.

Easter Jr. wowed the boxing world with a shocking one-punch, fifth round KO over former world champion Argenis Mendez last April.

Fight fans can expect an all-out war regardless of where the bout takes place.

“Easter’s team are doing everything possible to make the fight happen in Pennsylvania, but we are not going to be reluctant,” Lokko said. “We will also push for it, but if we fail to do so, we will then have to battle Easter in Pennsylvania.

“Irrespective of where the fight takes place, we are ready for it. Commey has always been training, and he has gained a lot of experience fighting outside the shores of Ghana. The title belongs to us, and we have to get it so Easter can’t stop us.”
