Richard Commey to attend 40th MTN-SWAG Awards

United Kingdom (UK) base boxer Richard Commey – one of the nominees for the 40th Edition of the MTN-SWAG Awards, has confirmed his participation in the event fixed for the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra on Saturday, October 3.

Commey, who has been nominated as the “Professional Boxer of the Year” and is currently in UK preparing for his next fight, confirmed his participation in the historic event to the secretariat of SWAG on Thursday, September 24.

The International Boxing Federation (IBF) Continental Champion and Commonwealth Lightweight Champion said, he was prepared to fly down to Ghana to receive his award due to the great respect he has for the Association and the prestigious award.

Commey, 28, who is currently ranked fourth by the IBF, said “i think there was the need to fly down to Ghana receive the award myself because it is very important in my career.

“It is a great morale booster for me as i look forward to greater heights in my career”. The boxer noted.

Carl Lokko, trainer of Commey, said in an interview that, they will arrive in Ghana early next week purposely for the SWAG Award.

According to Lokko, they have decided to put on hold their training programmes to ensure their presence in Ghana for the event.

“We have been having very tight training schedules ahead of our next fight, but this award is also very important to our plans.

“We were not sure of making it due to our training schedules but upon a second thought, we felt it was necessary to be in Ghana to receive the award.” Lokko stated.

Commey, is one of the fastest rising boxers and has made modest progress in recent times, winning Commonwealth Lightweight title as well as the IBF Continental Lightweight title.

The 40th SWAG Awards is headlined by communication giants MTN – Ghana and Activa International Insurance Company.
