Odamattey Gets Title Shot

Carl Greaves of Newark, USA has been promised a world title fight on the next Hennessy Sports promotion at Nottingham Arena next month.

Manager John Ashton has lined up a WBF super-featherweight showdown with Ben Odamattey from Ghana on April 16. Little is known about Odamattey, apart from the fact that he has been beaten by Moubi Armstrong and drawn with Eric Odumassi for the Ghanaian title.

The best-known super-featherweight boxers from Ghana are Ray Narth and Alfred Kotey.

"It is great news," said Greaves, who is currently No.9 in the British rankings. "I've got six weeks to prepare.

"I know nothing about him, apart from the fact that he is going to be durable."

Ashton says that victory could lead to great things for Greaves.

"I agree with what Mike Shinfield said in the Post earlier this week, he said. "There are too many titles already. A lot are meaningless.

"This is a minor world title, but if Carl doesn't fight for it then someone else will.
"And the winner could go on to get a big-money unification fight. People might laugh now, but they would not laugh at Carl's pay cheque."
