Octopus Djanie keen on Canada training trip

Local amateur boxing great Prince Octopus Dzanie who is turning professional has told All Sports his upcoming trip to Canada for training ahead of his professional debut is the perfect opportunity to hone his skills for his impending career.

One of the longest serving members of the national boxing team, Black Bombers, boasting rich amateur experience, Prince Octopus Dzanie has been invited by AWE Promotions Inc. to visit Canada for a training camp before making his professional debut on April 30, 2011 in Accra, Ghana.

Djanie will be accompanied by his trainer and assistant trainer- Abdul Ramany Iddrisu and Sanni Nasiru respectively on the trip sponsored by Mr. Anthony Kermah of Sea World Fishing Nets Limited and head of management for Team Octopus Dzanie. They are expected to depart Ghana on 26th March, 2011 (this weekend) and return on 24th April, 6 days before the boxer fights for the first time as a professional.

Mr Kermah believes Dzanie's training camp is strategic since it will improve his competition level since he will be trained by high profile Canadian trainers like Emile Awe Rudan as well as Chris Johnson- former trainer of Canadian World Champion Steve Molitor. “The training camp will also go a long way to improve the coaching skill levels of Dzanie's trainers Iddrisu and Nasiru in their quest of raising the boxer to become a world champion,” Mr. Kermah added.

The owners of Sea World Fishing Nets have been involved in boxing for a long time, since the days of the legendary Azumah Nelson, Nana Yaw Konadu, Ike Quartey - who were all former world champions and recently raising new generational boxers to the world level - this includes boxers like Maxwell Awuku and Joseph Laryea who recently lost a Jr. Lightweight world title challenge against Ricky Burns of Scotland.
