No Banku on Super Night

Lovers of boxing who are waiting to see crowd puller Bukom Banku in the ring against South African Thabiso Mogale on what has been termed the ‘Super Night’ at the Accra Stadium, will have to wait a little longer.

Organizers of the bout, Super Entertainment Boxing Promotions (SEBP), have rescheduled it to May 2015 to allow the pugilists enough time to prepare.

SEBP president Bernard Fetrie said in an interview, “It’s going to be our first major promotion on home soil and we would want to give Ghanaians a showpiece that would for a very long time be etched in their memory.

“We have also taken this heart-throbbing but indispensable decision because some of the boxers on the bill including Braimah Kamoko (Bukom Banku) say they would need some time to prepare well.”

He said even though he thought Banku’s reason was untenable – having been informed of the fight more than three months ago – “I had to let it go.”

Winner of the bout was going to contest for the WBF title in Sydney, Australia, somewhere in February next year under the Super Entertainment Promotion.

But with this present development, the projections of SEBP appear to have been put on hold for now.

Banku has been inactive since brushing aside Ayitey Powers some months ago.
