New man for Alex Baba

GHANA?s WBC Super flyweight contender, Alex Ali Baba, will now fight Roland Igbafe of Nigeria in one of the main bouts on the Arthur Don International Promotions bill fixed for the Trade Fair Site on Saturday.

Last minute substitute, Igbafe, replaces fellow countryman Felix, Friday. Revealing this to the Graphic yesterday, the Executive Chairman of Arthur Don Promotions, Dr Don-Arthur explained that the change was at the instance of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBC).

He noted that the NBBC, well aware of Ali Baba?s calibre decided to provide him with a much tougher opponent hence their intervention. For the Nigeria boxing officials, they were convinced Roland Igbafe would offer the WBC number two contender the necessary opposition befitting the occasion dubbed the ?Way of the Warrior?.

The Promoter indicated that a similar thing happened in the case of the main bout, where Charles Adamu?s original opponent, King Adam was substituted with Sunny King Hammer who was regarded as a more credible contender by the Nigerian boxing authorities.

As if that is not enough, there is yet another introduction in Ibrahim Jaffa, alias Adanko Deka, who fights Kpakpo Allotey in a super featherweight clash. The former clown but now transformed Jaffa takes the place of Alfred Odai, who is reported to be having some weight problems.

However, the rest of the bouts are intact, with Badu Akuetteh facing Roland Mills in a 10-round super lightweight contest, while Alfred Tetteh confronts Kofi Boateng in a flyweight fight also over 10 rounds.

Samuel Turkson and Isaac Sackey complete the night?s show with another interesting fray.

The ring announcer will be Papa Shamo Quaye.
