Lamptey crowned AGGW light welterweight champion

Accra, April 11, GNA - Hard-hitting boxer Ben Lamptey was crowned the champion of the Light welterweight division of the maiden edition of the Africa Golden Gloves Warrior (AGGW) after beating Samuel Offei of the Fit Square Gym in a unanimous decision last Friday at the Prisons Canteen, Cantonments Accra.

Lamptey from the Panix Gym and a member of the national amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers, dominated his opponent and was deservingly rewarded with greater points on the score cards of all the three officiating judges.

The hard-hitter unleashed countless punches at the face as well as on the body of Offei and had the upper-hand in each of the three rounds of the contest.

Lamptey's compatriot, Emmanuel Mantey was also declared the winner in the Middleweight contest when the fight was stopped after Ebenezer Quartey of Attoh Quarshie Gym sustained a cut on his face. Lamptey and Mantey were presented with their titles by AGGW President, Gideon Quartey and also received a cash prize of 50 Ghana cedis each, whilst the runners-up received 30 Ghana cedis each. In a Bantamweight elimination bout, Felix Okine of Will Power Gym outclassed Patrick Aryee of Wisdom Gym, whilst Henry Abbey of Sonia Gym replicated a similar output against Fit Square's Timothy Offei in the Welterweight class.

Akotoku Gym's Kojo Antwi made mince meat of Emmanuel Obeng of the Attoh Quarshie Gym in the Light heavyweight elimination bout whilst Ebenezer Tetteh of Panix Gym also overcame Sampson Dzaku of the Zoom Zoom Gym in the Heavyweight division.

The AGGW was promoted by Dade Boxing Promotion Syndicate.
