GBA wishes Joseph Agbeko well

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has sent a goodwill message to Joseph King Kong Agbeko ahead of his WBA\ WBO Super Bantamweight fight against Guillermo Rigondeaux Ortiz on Saturday.

In a statement issued by Public Relations Officer Naa Darkuah, the Association says Agbeko’s success will serve as a major boost for young budding talents in the country to push to the top.

The King Kong lost his IBF and WBC Silver Bantamweight bout to Abner Mares in 2011 and has since struggled to get a shot at the International stage.

He recorded a 12 round Unanimous decision over Luis Melendez in March this year to secure the IBO Bantamweight title.

GBA Chairman Peter Zwennes and General Secretary Patrick Johnson are already in the United State of America to offer their support to the “King kong”.

The fight comes off in New Jersey, Atlantic City, USA. Other board members will leave Accra on Thursday to join the rest of the team. Guillermo is a formidable boxer who has an impressive record of 12 wins from 12 fights.

He has fought the likes of Willie Casey, Adolfo Landeros, Giovanni Andrade, Teon Kennedy, Rico Ramos, Roberto Marroquin, Nonito Donaire.

King Kong has also proven himself in his carrier by defeating formidable opponents like Luis Melendez, Yohnny Perez, Vic Darchinyan, William Gonzalez and Luiz Alberto Perez.
