GBA assures of maximum security for UBC World title fight

Accra, May 4, GNA - The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has assured of adequate security for next weekend's world title fight in Accra. Ghana's George Ashie will face George Mchedlishvi of Georgia for the Universal Boxing Council (UBC) Super featherweight title on Saturday, May 15 at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra.

The bill dubbed "Battle of the Georges" is being put together by California-based Ghacal Group Incorporated Promotions.

The other pairings for the night will see Ghanaian Lartekwei Hammond slugging it out with Anicet Amoussou of Benin for the WBA Pan Africa Middleweight title.

Patrick Okine of Ghana will also face Beninois Ghislain Vodpuhnessi for the WBA Pan Africa Featherweight title whilst another Ghanaian, Albert Mensah battles against Isaac Quartey for the WBA Pan Africa Super Lightweight title.

In a Welterweight challenge contest, Kofi Manu will come up against Joseph Lamptey in a local derby.

Samir Captan, Chairman of the GBA announced at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday that his outfit is working in collaboration with the national security and the other security services to ensure an incident-free event.

He said the fact that there is a world title at stake demands that security must be at its peak.

Captan added that the GBA is working tirelessly with the promoters to stage an eventful event, which will open more doors for future similar world championship bouts. Charles Nee Anyankor, head of Ghacal Group Incorporated Promotions underscored the need for cooperation by the various stakeholders to stage a successful event.

Meanwhile, the rates for the bout are VIP - 20 Ghana cedis, Ring Side - 10 Ghana cedis and Popular stand - 5 Ghana cedis.
