Richard Richard

Ghana’s undefeated boxer, Richard ‘Azonto’ Commey will be competing for his first boxing world title against Richard Easter Junior from the United Kingdom at the Accra Sports Stadium.

According to the boxer’s manager, Michael Amoo Bediako, the team is working around the clock to bring down the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Lightweight title, and will soon announce a date for the fight.

He added that “Richard Commey is now the highest ranked boxer in the lightweight division and his next opponent will be the next highest ranked in the division for the world title, which is now vacant”.

The manager also noted that the fight will be staged to honour the late Mohammed Ali.

In his address, the SWAG professional boxer of the year, Richard Commey, expressed his readiness for the fight, saying: “I am very happy to be fighting for the world title here in Ghana, and I promise I will not let this chance slip by.”

He said he started from a kickboxing background and people doubted his capabilities, “but today I want to assure all Ghanaians now that I have a shot at the world title, and I will not let my fans down”.

Nisse Sauerland of Sauerland Promotions stated that negotiations are already underway with Richard Easter Junior’s management to get the fight over here to Ghana.
