Ashie commends Box Office Sports Promotions and Sports Minister

WBC International and Commonwealth Lightweight contender George Ashie popularly known as Red Tiger has commended Box Office Sports Promotions for keeping the Ghana Boxing alive with the upcoming big fight between challenger Ayitey Powers and WBO Africa Cruiserweight king Braimah Kamoko.

Ashie who lost to Emmanuel Tagoe in a controversial decision at the Accra Sports Stadium under the Baby Jet Promotions said the upcoming bout has generated much enthusiasm, heat and momentum with less than a month and the expectations of boxing fans keep rising as the 18th of April, 2014 gets closer.

According to Ashie, the stress of the nation reduces whenever there is a major sports or entertainment event because the citizens take their minds off the economic hardships and political propagandas and find time to laugh or smile.

He noted that sports does a lot for the nation and it is a good idea that the Minister of Youth & Sports Hon. Elvis Afriyie - Ankrah said at a recent Meet – The – Press for Sports Journalists that the financials gains of the FIFA World Cup would be channeled to the development of the less financed sports.

He emphasized that the nation needs a boxing hall where other sporting events can be held. He hinted that he is a footballer but loves to fight as a profession.

“I play football with my team every Saturday at Mamprobi, so I think it is good that football is helping boxing” he said.

He named boxers like Ike Bazooka Quartey, Joshua Clottey, Percy Oblitei Commey and others who played football at their leisure periods and hinted that football and boxing are the two major sporting activities that most people on Accra are interested in.

George Ashie said Ghana has a good chance if the Black stars are able to win their first match against USA at the World Cup.

“We will support the Black stars to win so that some of the income they bring home is committed into the development and promotion of boxing.

Now boasting of a record of 29 fights with 24 wins (17 kos), one draw and four loses, he promised his fans of a super come back in grand style.
