The world’s title holder of the International Boxing Federation Bantam Weight (I.B.F) Joseph Agbeko a.k.a The Champion, has expressed his deepest appreciation to Almighty God for guiding, protecting, granting him wisdom and courage to retain his title successfully by out boxing his challenger " the big mouth” Vic Darchinyan,in an unanimous decision about a week ago on the soil of USA.
" With God all things are possible and without God nothing would be good in one's life ,I thank my Creator Lord for helping me defended my title successfully, the President of Ghana His Excellency Atta Mills, the Minister of Sports, my Management, my Promoter, my fans and my family back home in Accra, those who came from near and a-far to cheer me into victory ,good will messages and what even motivated me to die for my beloved country Ghana was when I was about to enter the ring, I had a phone call from President Mills that , the whole of Ghana were solidly with you in spirit, enter into the ring and be a good ambassador of Ghana you will surely win the bout".
I said thank you and said to myself that," I have no business to let the flag of Ghana down, I have to fight very hard to bring smiles back to my people and I am dedicating this title to all Ghanaians for their love, prayers, support, words of encouragement and I pray that there should be peace in Ghana and spirit of Love be the head of the Sports fraternity" Agbeko noted.
In an exclusively interview with this freelance Journalist last week Monday in Bronx - USA, the Champion said that he will be in Ghana next week to present the belt to President Mills and the people of Ghana, he disclosed that after he opened a deep cut on the upper face of his challenger, his game plan was to hit him more and hard so that he will bleed more and also to punch him hard at his ribs, because before the fight, Darchinyan opened his mouth too wide to say that he will stop me before the 12 rounds. I only said to myself that when we get into the ring to box, I will show him the stuff that I am from" Bukom" in Accra.
"When he pushed me down in the seventh round, my corner told me to be very careful since that guy can use any foul means to stop me, so I decided not to him let have that chance again and the records are there for everyone to see that, I was pushed to canvas and from then on, I started to jab him ,blocked his deadly punches, and did not give him room to box me and made sure that I chased him all the time " Agbeko noted.
Agbeko with impressive record of 27-1 due to the dint of hard work ,dedication, self discipline in and the off the boxing ring, God fearing and commitment to his chosen career, said that he will go to Ghana and rest for a while and do some consultation either to stay at this same division or to move to another division.
Answering a question about his relation with the legendary promoter of boxing Mr. Don King, Agbeko explained that Don King has been there for him all the time whenever he comes to fight in the USA, Don King has helped so many boxers from Ghana and Don King has the intention of visiting Ghana sooner or later to help unearth some talented boxers and also to help to raise the image of boxing.
