Abuja 2003: Lankwei enters 1/8 stage on bye

Abuja, Nigeria, Oct. 7 GNA - Ghanaian bantamweight, Wilson Lankwei drew a bye into the next round of the boxing event at the ongoing Eighth All Africa Games in the Nigerian Federal capital of Abuja. Lankwei, who will be in the red corner, will meet next a Namibian, Seblon Shimuwateni on Tuesday at Luigi Barracks, venue of the boxing event.

The Ghanaian Bantamwight joined 13 other boxers who are into the next round of the boxing competition without throwing punches. Speaking to the GNA Sports on his opportunity, Lankwei said though he was happy to be going into the next round of the competition, he was angered by the absence of his opponent from the Games.

The boxer said he would have dominated his opponents so clearly that the judges will have no difficulty in declaring him the winner. He said he would carry his own judges into the ring by stopping any stubborn boxer who would want to step out of his bounds.

He said he was in tip-top form and ready for action and assured Ghanaians back home that he will win the gold medal.
