Volta Region Inter-Districts cross-country race comes off in December

Ho, Oct. 19, GNA - The second edition of the Volta Regional Inter-Districts Cross-Country Championship slated for Hohoe on December 18 this year has so far attracted about 180 athletes ready to compete in the event.

Long-distance runners from the 18 administrative districts of the Region will vie for laurels in the event aimed at identifying and developing budding athletic talents to represent the Region for future competitions.

Mr Gabriel Missodey, Regional Sports Development Officer in a release copied to GNA Sports noted that long and middle distances races were becoming, "very potent" areas for the Region and said he has the hope that the coming event would bring out more people with the capacity to make a mark in the endurance testing footrace.

He said that the Hohoe area was becoming a "breeding ground" for athletes for the Region and the nation and was optimistic that the December event would be successful.

Mr Missodey appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) as well as the Municipal and District Assemblies to sponsor and encourage sportsmen to take part in the competition.
