'We need unity to make our party great again' – Patricia Appiagyei

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament Patricia Appiagyei has called for deliberate measures to increase the representation of women in the party’s leadership and parliamentary caucus.
Speaking to GhanaWeb about the proposed review of the NPP’s constitution, the Deputy Minority Leader said the party must continuously assess its structures and address challenges as they emerge.
Appiagyei said the party’s growing membership makes it necessary to review its systems, particularly in areas including leadership, gender representation, communication and the role of the Council of Elders.
The seven-year plan Nkrumah drew up to transform Ghana's economy
“We need women from affirmative action. We need women to support governance. We need women to also manage the country,” she said.
She noted that the NPP currently has only 10 women in Parliament, a situation she believes places an additional burden on the few female MPs during parliamentary and party engagements.
According to her, the party must put in place special arrangements to ensure more women occupy key positions and contribute to decision-making.
She also urged NPP members to prioritise unity and choose leaders capable of attracting people back to the party.
“We need unity to make our party great again,” she added.
