'Winning 2028 election won't be easy' – Dr Bawumia

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has warned the party that reclaiming political power in the 2028 general election will be a difficult task, stressing that victory will require harder work and unity.
Speaking after the NPP’s national executive elections held on October 3, 2026, Dr Bawumia cautioned party members against assuming that the election of new national officers alone would position the party for victory.
“Winning the 2028 election won’t be easy; we must work harder,” he said.
Dr Bawumia noted that the conclusion of the national executive elections should not mark the end of internal mobilisation. Instead, he urged the party to immediately turn its attention to organising the party, bringing members together and preparing for the national election.
He called on newly elected executives, unsuccessful aspirants and party members to put the competition of the internal elections behind them and work collectively towards the party’s broader political objective.

According to him, the NPP cannot afford to waste the experience and capabilities of members who contested various positions but failed to secure victory.
“You’ll be part of the 2028 campaign. There’s enough work for all of us,” Dr Bawumia told the unsuccessful aspirants.
He said rebuilding the party would require everyone to work together, particularly after the intense competition during the national executive elections.
Dr Bawumia said the party must now put the internal elections behind it and focus on organising its members across the country.
He urged members to reconnect with supporters and strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 election, stressing that every member has a role to play.
With the new national leaders in place, the NPP must now focus on building a strong and well-organised party ahead of the 2028 election.
