Ghana’s Black Starlets will launch their bid to reach the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations against Togo at the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on Saturday.

The match will take place at the August 4 Sports Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00 GMT. The regional tournament is being used as the qualifying competition for the 2027 U-17 AFCON.

Head coach Kassim Ocansey and his technical team are confident in the squad’s preparation. Ghana’s players will now look to turn their work on the training ground into a strong opening result against Togo.

The Black Starlets have continued their preparations since arriving in the Burkinabe capital, holding training sessions in Ouagadougou. They also played two friendly matches against Morocco as part of their build-up to the tournament, with those games intended to improve their sharpness and strengthen their confidence.

Ghana enter the competition with recent experience of reaching the latter stages of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship. They finished runners-up in the previous edition, held in Cote d’Ivoire, a result that earned them qualification for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Black Starlets will aim to start this year’s regional campaign positively against Togo and establish a strong platform for the remaining matches in Ouagadougou.
