The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has denied claims that the government owes Ghana’s Black Maidens outstanding bonuses or per diems.

Speaking with Asempa Sports the Minister said he is not aware of any approved bonus due the national U-17 women’s team.

Adams said although some follow-ups have been made at the ministry regarding alleged payments, no official bonus has been approved for the team.

“The U-17, I’m not aware of any bonus that is due them. I’m not aware of any bonus,” he said.

He explained that the state currently covers the team’s expenses for approved activities, including their participation in the ongoing WAFU Zone qualifiers.

“Everybody thinks that, okay, when I go and play, I should be paid. The state is spending,we don’t owe them any per diem,” Adams noted.

The Minister further clarified that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation becomes directly involved when a national team progresses to an approved world-level tournament.

“At a certain stage, the FA is responsible for those activities. Once they go into a tournament that is approved, like the world-level tournament, then the ministry comes in. They haven’t reached there yet,” he added.
