Ghana international Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has finally returned to competitive senior football, more than three years after his career was derailed by a serious knee injury.

The 30-year-old came off the bench for 24 minutes as VfL Osnabrück secured a win over Bochum in the 2. Bundesliga on Friday, August 28, 2026, marking his first competitive senior appearance since February 2023.

Kyereh's comeback brings an end to one of the most difficult periods of his career.

The attacking midfielder suffered a cruciate ligament injury while playing for SC Freiburg in February 2023.

The injury was followed by further setbacks, keeping him away from competitive football for more than three years.

His return began earlier this year when he featured for Freiburg II in Germany's Regionalliga Südwest.

He made seven appearances for the reserve side before leaving Freiburg and joining Osnabrück on a free transfer in August.

The move reunited him with coach Timo Schultz, under whom Kyereh enjoyed an impressive spell at St Pauli.

Between 2020 and 2022, he scored 21 goals and provided 20 assists in 62 Bundesliga 2 appearances for the Hamburg club, performances that earned him a move to Freiburg.

Kyereh had also established himself with the Black Stars, earning 18 caps after making his Ghana debut in 2021. He was part of Ghana's squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Now, after years of rehabilitation and uncertainty, Kyereh has taken another significant step in his attempt to rebuild his career.
