Ghanaian sports journalist Godfred Akoto Boafo has made fresh allegations against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the events surrounding the Black Stars’ FIFA World Cup campaign.

In a video shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on July 27, 2026, Godfred Akoto Boafo alleged that the GFA was aware that Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey had been denied entry into Canada.

According to him, Partey’s visa denial was communicated to the GFA two days before Ghana’s World Cup clash against Panama in Canada.

He explained that the GFA kept the matter under wraps and attempted to resolve it before it became public knowledge.

“Two days before, the GFA knew. It didn’t catch them by surprise. It was just kept very quiet. The thinking was that we would try and work around it and see what happened. It was pretty disappointing how it played out. When I was listening to the hearing and the case that was made, I asked myself: why did we not get ahead of the situation?

“Because it looked very much like we were chasing the situation rather than being proactive. By the time the arguments were done, even before the judge ruled, I was chatting with a Canadian lawyer friend of mine, and he was like, ‘Partey is not entering,’” he said.

Godfred Akoto Boafo further alleged that the GFA deliberately acted surprised by Thomas Partey’s visa denial to avoid backlash from Ghanaians.

According to him, Partey’s visa application should have been handled separately rather than being processed together with those of the rest of the delegation.

“On Partey’s form, he did not answer the question in the affirmative. If he had answered yes, there would have been a difference in how the matter was treated. But he did not, so the argument was that he provided false information. That was the basic premise of the case regarding the completion of the form. At the hearing, the judge asked whether he filled out the form himself. He said no, somebody filled it for him. But did he sign the form? Yes, he signed it.

“You cannot simply say somebody filled it for you. So we have to ask ourselves whether his form should have been handled differently. The process for filling out forms for national team players and delegation members is usually done in bulk, not individually. Perhaps it should have been somebody’s responsibility to recognise that his case needed to be treated differently,” he added.
