Arsenal defender William Saliba has returned to Cameroon to reconnect with his roots ahead of the new football season.

The France international, who is of Cameroonian descent through his mother, travelled to Douala during his off-season break, where he spent time with his extended maternal family and visited his grandmother.

Images and videos from the visit showed the 25-year-old centre-back being warmly welcomed by relatives and locals, as he embraced his African heritage away from the pressure of European football.

Saliba also met some local personalities during his stay and shared moments with fans who gathered to welcome him.

The trip comes at a crucial time for the Arsenal star, who is currently recovering from a back injury suffered during France’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

Arsenal confirmed that Saliba will undergo a period of rehabilitation and is expected to miss an extended period.

Before the injury setback, Saliba enjoyed another impressive campaign with Arsenal, helping the club secure the Premier League title and establishing himself as one of the leading defenders in world football.
