Sports Journalist Benjamin Sackey will play an integral role in GhanaWeb’s coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
During this period, Benjamin will provide analysis of the matches and give insights into various issues that may arise.
Coverage of the world’s greatest football tournament will also see him writing match reports, analytical pieces, and feature articles, as well as interviewing officials, among other duties.

Sackey will also have the opportunity to debut as a commentator during the tournament, an opportunity he is excited about as it enhances his versatility.
Benjamin Sackey’s Profile
Benjamin Sackey is a graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Information Studies in 2022.
While on campus, he held various leadership roles, including serving as President of the National Union of Presbyterian Students (NUPS-G) at James Topp Nelson Yankah Hall, and was also a Junior Common Room (JCR) presidential aspirant.
He joined various committees at both departmental and JCR levels, contributing to campus initiatives and honing his leadership skills.
Since 2023, Sackey has served as Head of the Programmes Committee at the Young People’s Guild (YPG) of the Immanuel Congregation Church, Madina.
Radio Univers
Benjamin Sackey’s journey in journalism began at Radio Univers, the leading campus-based station in Ghana, during his time at the University of Ghana.
In 2020, he joined as a volunteer, playing multiple roles across the General News Desk, Sports Desk, and the Morning Show dubbed Campus Exclusive. He wrote news articles, reported on campus events, contributed to production, and served as a panelist.
In 2022, Sackey was appointed Head of Sports at Radio Univers, where he led the desk to deliver on its mandate. He also served as the online sports editor for publications on the univers.edu.gh website, keeping students informed about sporting competitions across campus.
GhanaWeb
In August 2023, Benjamin joined GhanaWeb as a multimedia journalist, contributing to the growth of the editorial team.
He initially worked with the Entertainment Desk, covering various events and writing articles. After a year, he was moved to the Sports Desk in 2024 due to his strong background in sports. Since then, he has covered a wide range of sporting events, from football to athletics and beyond.
The 2026 World Cup has provided Sackey with the opportunity to officially cover the tournament and make his debut as a commentator.
