Ghanaian winger Antoine Semenyo has once again registered his name on the scoresheet as Manchester City beat Newcastle United to advance to the final of the English Football League (EFL) Cup.
The match, played at St James’ Park on January 13, 2026, was tensed throughout as both sides battled for glory and a place in the final.
Semenyo, who continues to settle into life at the Etihad, started the cup tie against Newcastle but was kept quiet throughout the first half.

After the break, he opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, finding space inside the box to meet a well-weighted pass from Bernardo Silva. The forward kept his composure and slotted home to give City the lead.
The Ghanaian thought he had doubled his tally ten minutes later when he reacted quickest to a teasing corner delivery from Tijjani Reijnders and fired home from close range. However, celebrations were cut short after a VAR review ruled the goal out for offside.
It was the winger’s second goal since donning the Citizens shirt, and he continues to impress with his versatility and ability to make forward runs.
Head coach Pep Guardiola praised Semenyo’s start to life at City and noted that he expects him to maintain the same form in the years to come.
