Matchday one of the 2019/2020 Nasco Women’s Premier League begun on a bright note witnessed and massive attendance from fans over the weekend.

The commencement of the much-anticipated WPL got fans trooping to match centers to cheer the ladies on as they displayed good footballing skills on the green turf.

At the McDan Park in La-Accra, the opening game was graced by the GFA president Kurt Okraku, Chairperson of the WPL, Hillary Boateng, RFA chairman Samuel Aboabire as well as other members of the Association. The GFA president aided in the kick-off of the first match in the Women’s Premier League.

As part of activities to create awareness for the league, gates were open for free for two games played in the Southern Zone. However, in the Northern Zone, spectators were made to pay as little as three cedis for a game played over the weekend.

For the Southern Zone, 3 clubs from Accra will play their home games at the McDan Park as Hassacas Ladies play at Essipong in Takoradi whiles 3 other clubs play their games from the Central Region.

The sixteen clubs participating in this year’s league have received a ¢10,000 participation fee from the GFA. The best player after each game is rewarded with souvenirs from league sponsors, Nasco.

The WPL which is played in the Northern Zone and Southern Zone has eight clubs participating in each zone. The club with most points at the end of the season in each zone will clash in the Champions of Champions to determine the winner of the league.
