As the new football season draws closer, football clubs in Eastern Region are rounding up their preparations ahead of the season, which will officially commence on the 29th of February 2020.

Some teams the Ghana News Agency (GNA), spoke with shared their expectations and preparations.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kwahu Youth Academy, Mr Abubakar Briamah said his outfit has been training for some time now and right after the Regional Football Association(RFA) elections, they realised that the season was drawing closer so they intensified their training.

He said they were going to break camp due to the Christmas and New Year season and resume training right after the celebrations were over.

Braimah said his team has registered 10 new players to strengthen the squad and was hopeful that the new and old players will gel better before the start of the season.

Braimah urged the RFA to dedicate more time for grassroot football development, the second division, third division, women football and the colts league because that is where players are groomed for the national teams.

He said his team is expecting to receive some footballs and other logistics from the Football Association(FA) as a motivation to promoting grassroot football which has been neglected for a very long time.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO), of Koforidua based division two side, Top Heroes FC , Mr Frank Apau said due to the Christmas holidays they were going to break the team and resume on the first week of January to begin intensive training to ensure the readiness of their players for the season.

He said so far, 10 new players have been signed onto their fold and they are looking at bringing in more new players since some of the old ones will be off loaded.

Apau said for now, the focus of the team is on how to have a successful pre-season and then head on to the season well convinced that they are going to make their fans proud.

He said the coming season will ensure that the Academy side of Top Heores FC, the Under 13,15 and 17 teams are strengthened as well as improve the teams infrastructure, logistics and the welfare of the players.

Speaking to the secretary of the Eastern Regional Football Association (ERFA), Mr Bob Tagoe, he said the kick-off for the new football season has been slated for the 29th of February 2020.

He said player registration ended on the 13th of December 2019, however, there is an extension of the registration till the 15th of January 2020.

Tagoe indicated that prior to the start of the new football season, the RFA would have to go to congress to elect the executive committee members for the various committees at the RFA.
