Ghana Warned Against Underrating Zambia Under-23

UNDER-23 national soccer team coach Peter Kaumba has warned Ghana against underrating his charges in Saturday's Athens 2004 Olympic qualifying match set for Lusaka's Independence stadium.

Kaumba said although Ghana was carrying a three-point advantage after beating South Africa in their opening group D match, Saturday's encounter would be a different ball game.

He said the Junior Chipolopolo boys had been responding well to training and looked promising ahead of the crunch match that would put or leave out Kaumba's boys on the road to the Olympics.

"They are all very well and looking forward to the game. We must be making a final team on Wednesday before we can shift camp to Lusaka on Thursday," Kaumba said.

He said his lads would go for maximum points to keep Zambia's hopes of getting to the Olympic games slated for Greece alive.

Kaumba, whose team has no points after narrowly losing 1-0 to Algeria in their opening away tie is in need of maximum points from the meeting against Ghana.

"Our mission is to go for maximum points and that is what we are looking for when we play them on Saturday and against South Africa two weeks later," he said.

Kaumba said after the weekend tie against Ghana, his team would only be allowed to break camp for two days at the most before reassembling for the South Africa game set for the weekend of January 2-4 next year.

Meanwhile, the Ghana under-23 squad is expected in Zambia on Thursday morning.

BBC Sport correspondent in Accra Michael oti Adjei said the team was leaving Ghana on Wednesday.

Adjei said outgoing Ghanaian coach Ralf Zumdick who has been offered a coaching job in Germany would also be coming.
