Okwawu suffer heaviest defeat at home

Accra, Aug 29, GNA--- Okwawu United on Friday suffered their heaviest defeat in the Kinapharma Premier League at their adopted home, the Accra Sports Stadium by losing 1-4 to visiting King Faisal in a 17th week match.

Okwawu showed glimpses of their strong play in the first five minute of the game by making some attempts at goal but soon crumbled to the hard running and tackling King Faisal side which took absolute control of the game after the quarter hour.

Faisal however failed to create any clear cut chance until the 22nd minute when petite Ben Wilson won a midfield tussle with Mohammed Polo, laid a pass to Kwadwo Poku who outwitted Umar Yakubu and made rubbish of George Tutu's challenge before slotting in the ball for the first goal.

The Nokia boys never looked back as they took over the midfield while the "Asase Aban" boys (the nickname of Okwawu) could not find their rhythm. The visitors scored the second through Poku who was brilliant with a pass from Eric Gawu in the 28th minute. Poku now has a goal haul of nine, making him a joint leader on the goal king chart with Shaibu Yakubu of Gold fields.

Okwawu remained the weaker side till the end of the first half but came back strongly in the second half but this was short lived as Faisal had the third goal in the 62nd minute through Yahuza Abubakari who capitalised on poor making by the Okwawu defence to shoot pass keeper Fatau Alhassan.

The hosts fought hard after the goal to redeem their image and had a penalty after their attacker was brought down in the vital area. Thomas Avergbodor converted it for his side in the 77th minute.

The poor making which characterised Okwawu's play on the day came into play again when Sumaila Alhassan beat Kwabena Boateng and placed ball on Eric Gawu's path to plant the ball in for the fourth and final goal of the day.
