Demand for refund will have no basis-Thompson

Accra, Aug 29, GNA--Mr Ernest Thompson Board Secretary of Accra Hearts of Oak has said any request from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to make the club refund the 850 million cedis to Kumasi Asante Kotoko will have no legal basis.

Mr. Thompson told the GNA Sports in interview that "the club will resist any such request from any quarters and go to court to contest it."

" I cant imagine the GFA asking us to refund the amount unless they want to throw away the facts of the whole matter". He said all the facts were established during the investigations at Wagara Hotel and the evidence made available is the best to make judgements on the case hence the fines imposed on Charles Taylor and Kotoko.

Mr. Thompson said it was established at the investigations that Charles Taylor, his brother and George Hemans left the offices of Mr Tommy Okine, Chief Executive of the club with a physical cash of 50 million cedis as part payment of the contract fee signed between Hearts and the player.

"Whatever happened to the 50 million cedis later on, is a matter between Taylor and Hemans and not a problem of Hearts of Oak". Mr. Thompson stated.

The Board Secretary stated that the dud cheque is not a cheque of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club Limited but that of Mr. Hemans reiterating that the club has no hand in the matter.

He questioned why Taylor and for that matter Kotoko agreed to pay the 650 million compensation and the fine of 200 million cedis respectively if the player he had not received the amount.

It would be recalled that the GFA imposed a 200 million cedis fine on Kumasi Asante Kotoko for inducing Charles Taylor to breach his contract with Hearts of Oak, while the player was made to pay 650 million cedis as compensation to the club. 29 Aug, 03
