Refrain from bribery and corruption-Mfum

Accra, July 25,GNA - Mr. Wilberforce Mfum, former player of the senior national team the Black Stars, has called on female sports personalities to refrain from bribery and corruption in order to achieve excellence. Speaking at an open forum organised by Women Sports Association of Ghana (WOSPAG) for female coaches, Mr. Mfum said women have the talent to be good coaches and referees but they must shy away from bribery and corruption to make this a reality.

He said the canker of bribery and corruption has been the bane of men in sports and if women are able to prevent it from spreading into their domain then it would go a long way to project their image in sports. The former national star said women are capable of taking over their own destinies in coaching in the near future, if they adhered strictly to the ethics of their chosen professions.

Referring to a match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics, which was handled by Vivien Aggor, Mr. Mfum commended her for the performance she exhibited in the game but said she could have done better if the assistant referees who were males had given her the needed support on the lines.

Mr. Mfum advised women not to allow themselves to be bullied by their male counterparts but to stand firm on any decision they take. He urged them set good examples as coaches and referees for others to follow so as to ensure the development of sports in the country. The three-day workshop for women in coaching ended at the Accra Sports Stadium last Friday.

Participants were drawn from the Ghana Education Service (GES), National Sports Council (NSC) and the Security Services.
