JoeTex joins Meteors for Liberia

Ghanaian-born forward, Joetex Frimpong, who plays club football for Nigerian champions, Enyimba Football Club of Aba, has joined the camp of Ghana's U-23 National Team, the Black Meteors, ahead of this weekend's Olympic qualifier against their Liberian counterparts, in Monrovia.

Chairman of the Nigerian club, Felix Anyansi, disclosed this in an interview, in Aba, Abia State.

"He has been invited, and we are happy about it. We will continue to support him and we hope he will play well, too," Anyansi said.

One of the Enyimba players, who is in the Nigerian U-23 team said Frimpong was excited about the invitation.

Frimpong had earlier stated that he was looking forward to playing against Nigeria in the football event of the All Africa Games, which Nigeria will host in October.

"Most of my teammates are in the Nigerian U-23 team, and I have played with the other players in the league. I know how to beat them, especially the defenders and goalkeepers," he said.

His Enyimba teammates in the Nigerian U-23 team include, Jibade Omolade, David Tyavkase, goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba among others.

Frimpoog has also played with the duo of Segun Oluwaniyi and Iliyasu Ishaku, at one of his former clubs, Niger Tornadoes of Minna.

The invitation is the first for the Ghanaian, who is currently leading the scorers chart in the African Champions League.

Last year, he was joint-leading scorer, in the Nigerian League with Victor Ezeji, who is now his teammate in Enyimba.
