Ghana win on penalties

GHANA?S Black Stars yesterday defeated Madagascar 10-9 on penalties to win the third-place match of the special four-nation tournament in Tunisia. The two sides settled for a 3-3 draw at the end of regulation time.

Italy-based Stephen Appiah made the headlines for scoring and later receiving the marching off order. The Stars played without defenders Joseph Hendricks and Yakubu Abubakari who were both shown the red card in Ghana?s opening match with Tunisia last Thursday.

Ghana?s hit man, Charles Amoah, hit the back of the net to take his tally in the tournament to three while Baffour Gyan scored the Stars third goal in the second half.

According to reports, the Stars struggled for victory after blowing away a 2-0 first half lead. With even seven minutes to go Ghana led 3-1 but the Madagascans fought back strongly to draw even.

During the tie-breaking shootout, the Stars converted all their kicks.

Tunisia beat Cameroun 1-0 for the first position.
