AmaZulu midfielder John Arwuah has backed caretaker coach Wilfred Mugeyi to help the team move away from the bottom of the Absa Premiership table.
Mugeyi was given the temporary position following the departure of previous coach Craig Rosslee due to poor results.
The former Zimbabwe international has achieved mixed results in his first two games in charge, beating Bloemfontein Celtic 3-2 in a Telkom Knockout encounter before losing 1-0 to Chippa United in an Absa Premiership encounter.
“All coaches have their different styles and so far it has been great to work with coach Mugeyi; he’s one of us,” Arwuah said. “He knows how to motivate the players and if we lose you can see he also feels it.
“Even though we lost the last game against Chippa the coach has been positive and I believe we’ll do better in the next game.”
Usuthu are currently at the bottom of the Absa Premiership table with three points from eight matches and Arwuah believes injuries and suspensions have had a negative effect on their progress.
“We’ve been unlucky, especially with our defence because in the beginning some players didn’t have their work permits and lately we’ve have to deal with injuries and suspensions.
“We’ve had to change our defence so many times this season because the coach has had to work with whoever is available and I believe that has resulted in some misunderstanding at the back.
“We are working hard as a team to overcome the challenges and hopefully it will come together against Free State Stars.”
Usuthu will be without the injured Marc Van Heerden and the suspended Sadat Ouro-Akoriko when they face Ea Lla Koto at the Charles Mopeli Stadium on Wednesday night.
