Ghana 3 Benin 0

The Black Stars, the senior national team, beat their Beninois counterpart, Le Onze National 3-0 in a friendly international soccer match played at the Kumasi sports stadium on Sunday.

The Stars looking more purposeful, scored the first goal in the 37th minute through a header from Wisdom Abbey after Don Bortey had sent in a beautiful free-kick.

Playing with an entirely local players, the Stars increased the tally to 2-0, ten minutes later from similar free kick taken by Don Bortey which was headed home by William Tiero.

FIFA referee Mike Amedior awarded a free kick against Benin and Don Bortey expertly lobbed the ball for the fast improving Tiero to head past goalkeeper Chetou Rachard in goal for Benin.

The Beninois who adopted a lackadaisical approach towards the game, failed to give the Stars the anticipated opposition and allowed them to score the third goal in the 87th minute through substitute Micheal Asante with a splendid shot.

The Stars nearly made it four but Wisdom Abbey's header hit the post and was cleared to corner which was wasted.

The Beninois came into the game briefly but Joseph Ayowa shot wide in the dying minute as Oladidupo Lane also wasted a chance.

Both teams exhausted their substitutions but it was the Stars who had the upper hand but could not increased the tally.

After the match Afraine, who is hopeful of securing the job as Ghana boss on a permanent basis, was in bullish mood.

"Even for a quarter of what the expats get, I could do a better job," Afraine said.

There is currently a division in Ghana between the FA, who favour a foreign coach, and the government, who want to appoint a home-based boss.
