Kotoko 0-0 Hearts of Oak: Kotoko officially crowned champions

Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko drew 0-0 in their First Capital Plus Premier League week 29 fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The outcome of the match did not change anything with regard to their standings as Kotoko went ahead to clinch their 23rd league title.

Hearts of Oak maintain their third spot as they continue to chase a CAF Champions League slot. The Phobians are two points behind second placed, Heart of Lions as they go into the final round of matches next Wednesday.

Hearts coach, Mohammed Polo, was forced to make two changes as defenders, Robin Ggange and Philip Boampong were taken out on the ground of injuries. Boampong was the one who replaced Ggange, but he himself was unable to complete the game.

Both sides created some decent chances right from the start, but it was the home side, Kotoko that came closer.

Kotoko captain, Seidu Bancey, is on the verge of losing out on the league’s top scorer award as Bechem United’s Augustine Okrah scored three times against Medeama SC.

Okrah has now moved to the summit of the chart with 15 goals while Bancey stays on 12.

The league success eventually cements Kotoko’s status as the most successful club side in the history of the Ghana Premier League.

Their dominance in the last three years has been unmatched since they have finished their campaigns in the last three straight seasons as league champions.

It is also a good moment for coach Mas-Ud Dramani who has won his second straight title.

The Porcupines will now be focused on sealing a double as they play against Inter Allies in the MTN FA Cup next weekend at the Accra Sports Stadium.
