Atsu, Waris score but suffer defeats

Ghana international Christian Atsu was on target for Vitesse Arnhem on Saturday but his strike was not enough to register victory for his side.

Vitesse were the first to concede after 10 minutes when Richairo Zivkovic put FC Groningen in the lead in the Eredivisie.

Atsu, who is on loan from Chelsea, grabbed the equaliser in the 39th minute after lobbing the ball over goalkeeper Marco Bizot. Groningen restored their lead and put the final nail on the coffin in the second half through Nick van der Velden and Chery respectively.

Elsewhere in the French Ligue 1, free scouring Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris bagged a brace for Valenciennes but Ajaccio stood superior in a 2-3 encounter.

The Right to Dream graduate scored in both halves of the game with his last coming from the spot, however, the visitors had the last laugh after cancelling out Waris’ two goals.
