FCP League: Faisal pip Kotoko in Kumasi derby

The Kumasi derby lived up to its billing with a late drama as league leaders Asante Kotoko suffered an added time stunner from Striker Ben Wilson Andoh to end Kotoko’s unbeaten run at the Baba Yara Stadium and their fourth defeat in this season’s First Capital Plus Premier League.

Both teams looked like sharing the spoils but the former Hearts of Oak player managed to find the back of the Kotoko net 3 minutes into added time.

Despite the defeat, Kotoko maintain their 12-point lead at the top of the table as second-placed Hearts of Oak’s match-day 19 fixture away to Medeama has been shifted to March 12.

Heart of Lions climbed to third position after a thrilling 3-2 home win over in-form Bechem United in the FCP Premier League on Wednesday. Strikers Samuel Yeboah and Isaac Osae gave the Kpando side a 2-goal lead before Bechem United talisman Augustine Okrah pulled one back two minutes after Osae’s goal.

Lions determined to end a patchy run this second round of the season restored their two-goal lead through a 79th minute effort from Prince Acquah but had to survive a late onslaught as Okrah was on hand again to score from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute. Lions however managed to guard their rears till the final whistle.

At Obuasi, AshantiGold’s poor second round run was extended by visiting Inter Allies as the Tema-based bottom placed club pulled a late goal courtesy in-form Abdul Fatawu Safiu to draw 1-1 with the Miners. Ashantiold had taken a 13th minute lead through Gafaru Nasiru at the Len Clay Sports Stadium. AshantiGold have thus drawn one and lost three games so far in the 2n round of the FCP Premier League.

A Kennedy Ashia brace as well as a goal from Tamimu Muntari marked Liberty Professionals’ return to favourite grounds, the Carl Reindorf Park for the first time this season in a 3-1 defeat of impressive Sekondi Hasaacas on Wednesday. Striker Frederick Quayson got the consolation goal for the visitors.

Quincy Appiah Asante's second half goal handed Amidaus Professionals a 1-0 victory over New Edubiase at the Tema Stadium.

On Tuesday, Berekum Chelsea had drawn goalless with Wa All Stars before leaving Ghana for a CAF Champions League assignment in Tunisia this weekend.
