Why Fatau Dauda beats Kwarasey

The man trusted with training and picking a first choice goalkeeper for Coach Kwesi Appiah when the Black Stars are in action, Nasam Yakubu has revealed how he arrives at his decisions for crucial games.

In an interview, the trained teacher by profession outlines a few things he looks out for in training; suggesting that those qualities have contributed to ex-AshantiGold shot-stopper continuing to have the nod over Adam Kwarasey. Despite the latter having a consistent run at his Norwegian club Stromsgodset where he also is a captain. Fatau Dauda on the other hand is having a torrid experience at club level since leaving AshantiGold for top South African club Orlando Pirates in the last summer. He has even hardly sat the bench for the Bucaneers.

“In picking a number one for Black Stars games, I consider numerous qualities and make my observations at the training grounds. I don’t make a choice beforehand as all need to have equal chances to fight for the slot ahead of matches,” Nasam opened up.

“The mental attitude of the player is very important. Sometimes you watch the person workout and you can deduce the person is not very prepared. The person’s carriage at training and his will to die for what he is doing; these among others inform my decision,” he explained.

“I wish you were there to observe our training sessions with these guidelines at the back of your mind. You may even find who my pick is prior to our matches,” Black Stars’ keepers trainer Nasam Yakubu concluded.
