Vodafone to pump $5m into Ghana League

Telecommunications giant Vodafone could become the headline sponsor of the Ghana Premier League.

According to Radio XYZ, Vodafone and Airtel are the two companies that were considered by the Ghana FA, but the former emerged as favourites to win the sponsorship deal.

The report said Vodafone is ready to pump as much as $5 million to sponsor the domestic top flight that is on a short break.

The Ghana Premier League has been sponsored by GLO for some time now but the Nigeria-based mobile network failed to pay the sponsorship money to the GFA for two consecutive seasons.

The 2013-14 season of the Ghana Premier League is ongoing without a sponsor.
