GFA Throws Out Arsenal's Appeal

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has dismissed an appeal made by premier club Berekum Arsenals over a two home match ban imposed on it for unruly behaviour by their fans.

The fans allegedly attacked Kotoko after their 10-week match at Berekum, which Kotoko won 3-1.

The disciplinary committee said in a statement on Friday that after hearing Arsenals' side of the story it is convinced that the ban is appropriate and should stand.

"With the May 9 Accra Stadium disaster fresh on our minds, it behoves on all Ghanaians to resolve to stamp out crowd violence and unruly behaviour of supporters of clubs," the statement said.

The committee however expressed regret that the GFA failed to notify Arsenals about the security arrangement in the said match and said this could have contributed to the "state of affairs during the match".

"We strongly recommend that the GFA should take immediate steps to avoid such lapses in future,, the statement added.
