Asamoah Gyan’s dream of playing in his fourth African Cup of Nation’s could be dashed if he does not win his battle with fitness.

Ghana's head striker is racing against time to be fit ten days to the Gabon and Equatorial Guinea competition which will see Ghana chasing the continental title in three decades.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) per the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regulations has up to the eve of the Black Stars’ opener against Botswana on January 24 to decide if the influential striker would make the cut. Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of GFA says Gyan would only be included in the 23 squad if he is declared fit by Ghana’s medics.

The Al Ain striker who is struggling with a hamstring, which is expected to heal within three to four weeks, would however utilize various medical opportunities available in his race against time.

The President of GFA said “We have already taken a decision and that is with the technical team as well. Asamoah will only be taken to the competition if he recovers in time.’

Nyantakyi believes Gyan, expected to utilize all available means, including the placenta treatment could regain fitness well in time before Ghana’s campaign begins.

The President of the GFA, who believes losing Gyan to the injury would be a big blow to the Stars campaign, says the 26-year-old striker would be offered enough rest and physiotherapy, a requirement for healing hamstrings.

Gyan is expected to begin extra rehabilitation regime with Serbian placenta healer Mairana Kovacevic, contracted by the GFA to join the Ghanaian medics for the tourney.

The striker who scored three times during the qualifiers has a rich goal scoring record with the Stars with a rate of a goal every two games.
