MPS to play Assemblymen in fun soccer game

Fun and excitement galore is promised on Saturday morning when some of Ghana’s leading politicians take to the field in a friendly football match between Members of Parliament and Assembly Members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) at the Accra Sports Stadium.

This will be the second time this match is taking place following the maiden event three years ago which was never replicated. But according to Wallace Nii Tackie-Komme, Chairman of the Youth and Sports Sub-Committee of the AMA, the fun match will now become an annual event as the AMA plans to get more involved in Sports with the building of a boxing hall in the offing.

“The first match three years ago was very exciting and it’s unfortunate that we haven’t done it again. Now we want to institutionalize it to be held every year in order to foster good and friendly relations with our honourable MPs,” explained Hon. Tackie-Komme, a former Division One League player who scored 3 goals to help the Assemblymen thrash the MPs 4-1 last time.

Hon. Wallace Tackie-Komme who is also the Vice Chairman of the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) and Manager of over four professional boxers added: “It will also be an ideal opportunity to have some interactions with them. So Saturday will be fun, big time.”

Kick off on Saturday is at 7 am with Employment and Social Welfare Minister Hon. E.T. Mensah, Hon. Jonathan Tackie-Komme, Hon. Alban Bagbin, Hon. Osei Akoto, Hon. Mohammed Muntaka and a host others expected to feature for the Members of Parliament.

The Assemblymen who have sworn to repeat their victory of three years ago will be led by the Mayor of Accra Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije himself. Also playing are Coordinating Director Mr. Ayeh Dartey, Hon. Derrick Myers, Hon. Desmond Addo Binney, Hon. Philip Lamptey and of course Hon. Wallace Nii Tackie-Komme.
