Afriyie Acquah shrugs off transfer claims

US Palermo midfielder, Afriyie Acquah, has revealed that he would like to stay with the club and help them achieve great heights before thinking of moving on in his career. He mooted the rumours linking him to a transfer and ensured that he isn’t going anywhere for the time being.

The midfielder was all at praise for the club president, Maurizio Zamparini, who brought the player to the Rosanero outfit from DC United in 2010. Acquah showed his eagerness to stay in Italy and make a name for himself while playing for Palermo. He further added:

"I am now reading in the media that I am rumoured to be moving. This does not interest me at all.”

The teenage sensation from Ghana insisted that he won’t be fixing his ears upon these rumours and would only concentrate on cementing his place in Palermo’s first team squad. He praised the efforts of the club officials and confirmed the signing of a contract extension which makes him a Palermo player until 2016.

The Ghanaian told that he wasn’t even expecting to get into the club’s first team but thanked the officials for trusting him with the duties. Acquah also added that, "All I am doing now is following the advice of the coach and my team-mates, who want to help me improve." When I joined the side in a training camp in July last year, I thought it would be impossible to play for the first team," he added. "Over the past few months, I have worked hard to achieve my dream."

Afriyie Acquah joined the Rosanero outfit in February last year and has made six league appearances ever since, though, he is yet to open his goal account. A host of Premier League sides have shown interest in the midfielder but the 18-year-old has no intentions of leaving the Serie A outfit.

Palermo are eighth in the League table with 44 points, 24 points short of the league leaders AC Milan. With just six games left to play in the season, the Aquile need positive results in the remaining fixtures if they are to play in Europe the next season.
