Hearts beat Mighty Jets in league match

Accra, March 2, GNA - Accra Hearts of Oak registered a 2-1 win over Tudu Mighty Jets in their Week 20 Glo Premier League clash when the league resumed on Wednesday at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra.

The result served as a major boost to the ambitions of the Phobians in their quest to move from their relegation blues and to ensure a respectable placement at the end of the season.

The month-long break which was in solidarity of the local Black Stars= ' participation in the just ended African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Suda= n appeared to have a negative impact, as both teams put up an average output. Fresh from their defeat to Berekum Arsenals in the FA Cup over the weekend, it was Hearts who started the game on a positive note as they made clear their intent of carrying the day from the onset. On 13 minutes, Hearts returnee striker Mahatma Otoo had the first attempt at goal but his volley was easily dealt with by Mighty Jets goalie Frank Andoh.

Five minutes on, Abraham Annan was on target to riffle home the opener from close range with an effort that caught keeper Andoh off guard. Hearts were dealt a major blow on the half-hour mark when dependable captain Karim Alhassan pulled out following a knock by his marker for his place to be taken over by Osei Bonsu.

Mighty Jets responded on 37 minutes but Hearts goalie Sammy Adjei parried wide Aaron Amoah's goal-bound header. Winfred Dormon however managed to level up the scores from the resultant corner kick taken by Yahaya Mubarak.

After missing a flurry of chances, Uriah Asante restored Hearts' lead three minutes before half time by connecting home from Samuel Ayisi's cross from the left flank.

Three minutes from recess, Mighty Jets hard-tackling defender Yaya Sabato was given the marching off orders after a second bookable offence fo= r a cynical tackle on Asante. Despite their numerical disadvantage, it was the new entrants who matched their hosts squarely putting pressure on the Phobians but their efforts was not enough to at least give them a point for Hearts to cruise t= o their eighth win of the season.
