Kotoko taste victory, Hearts lose again

Seventeen goals were counted on the road as the premier league reached the halfway stage and now heads into the festive break.

The final day of matches of the first round fixtures saw Asante Kotoko end their seven-game winless streak by beating All Stars 2-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Goals by Prince Boateng and Jordan Opoku aided their win as there was not enough time for the Blues to salvage a point following Nathaniel Asamoah's late strike.

Though managing a win after having lost six times in their last seven games and only drawn once, Kotoko are still level on points with the third from bottom side but have a game in hand.

Leaders, Chelsea would resume the league in the new year in a comfortable position.

The Bechem side have opened a seven-point gap after Emmanuel Osei Banahene's first half goal settled matters in their 1-0 win at the Ohene Djan Stadium where they engaged Mighty Jets.

New Edubiase forced a point off Heart of Lions, playing out a 0-0 scoreline at the Kpando Park to stay second.

Champions Aduana Stars also drew 1-1 with Berekum Arsenals at the Golden City Park. Joseph Mugri put the visitors in front before Bennedict Ofori equalised for Arsenals.

Real Tamale United produced a vintage performance to beat Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Tamale Sports Stadium.

The Phobians drew first blood through Douglas Nkrumah to end the first half 1-0 up. But two quick goals within three minutes from a Tofiq Alolo spot kick and a fine header by former Hearts fullback, Hassan Mohammed secured the home side their third win of the season though they sit 15th on the standings.

Mohammed Yakubu sealed a 1-0 victory for AshantiGold at the Len Clay Stadium against bottom side, B.A. Stars.

King Faisal's late fight-back could not deny Kessben FC the three points at the Sekondi Sports Stadium where they won 2-1.

Kessben raced into a two-nil lead through Emmanuel Dogbey and Hans Kwoffie before Bernard Cofie pulled one back for Faisal.

Ebusua Dwarfs shared the spoils with Liberty Professionals in their 2-2 drawn match at the Carl Reindorf Park.
