Metro TV, TV3 to telecast UEFA matches

METRO TV and TV3, two privately-owned television networks in the country, in collaboration with the French Channel, CFI Afrique, will begin live telecast of the UEFA Champions League from next month.

The unique development in sports joint venture transmission in the country was launched at the Hinlone Restaurant in Accra, last Saturday.

Mr Fadi Fattal of the Metro TV management said the package which would involve 33 matches of the UEFA league would commence on September 11, 2001 and run till May 22, 2002.

He said the nine-month long package would be sponsored by interested companies, organisations and institutions in return for advertisement spots on Metro TV, TV3 and in the Graphic Sports.

The General Manager of TV3, Mr Kofi Nyantakyi and Mr Gerald Ankrah of Metro TV were unanimous in their view that the package would give Ghanaians the opportunity to watch their own stars who are playing abroad in the UEFA Champions League, aside of the technical development it is expected to bring to the game of football in the country.

They said this healthy collaboration of the two networks is only a platonic, professional and business relationship and expressed the hope that it would endure and bring excitement and awareness to the generality of the Ghanaian public.
